The Faith Academy of Marble Falls volleyball team lost five matches and tied one at the Tourney in Boerne hosted by Boerne Geneva Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26.

“Overall, I’m happy,” head coach Erin Sawyer said. “Those teams were very good. We could have won at least three. We did well. It didn’t show in our wins or losses.”

Sawyer found out about the volleyball tournament while attending a basketball tournament for her children at Geneva months earlier. She expressed interest to officials about bringing the Lady Flames. They offered the team a spot, and Sawyer was very happy her team played.

“They had three courts going every hour from 3 to 8 p.m.,” she said. “It was constant, it was good.”

The competition included Bulverde Bracken, the Texas Military Institute, John Paul II Catholic School, The Patriots home school, and Providence, a school in San Antonio.

Sawyer noted that NBA superstar Tim Duncan’s daughter, Sidney, and her San Antonio Keystone team played in the tournament, too, though Faith didn’t play them. Sidney Duncan, who is a senior middle blocker, is committed to Stanford University, while her teammate, senior outside hitter Alysa Walker, is committed to the Air Force Academy.

“Both those girls are so good,” Sawyer said. “That ball could come down so fast.”

Faith travels to Kerrville Our Lady of the Hills Tuesday, Aug. 29, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity following. The Lady Flames welcome San Antonio Lutheran to The Fire Pit Thursday, Aug. 31, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity following.
